I can help you reconnect and restore emotional intimacy with yourself, partner, family, or spiritual relationships. I believe that understanding emotions are important to overcome obstacles of shame, fear, or shame-based cycles of addiction. My focus areas tend to be on romantic relationships, sexuality, the impact of hurtful habits, and spirituality.
I am a licensed (clinical) marriage and family therapist in California (LMFT 111604) and Maryland (LCMFT, #LCM754). I have a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy, and am an associate professor of counseling at a local university. I have been counseling individuals, couples, families and groups since before completing my masters’ degree in 2010. I am passionate about whole-person healing, involving all parts of yourself. While I use an evidence-based approach to therapy, I offer you the option of integrating faith and spirituality as part of your overall care. As a former pastor, I can also include the Bible or prayer for those who request it. However, I work with anyone regardless of your faith tradition or your life choices and will work with you using your beliefs.
Outside of doing therapy, I am happily married and a proud father of an energetic toddler!
TELEHEALTH / TELETHERAPY
Please note: Our office is based in Maryland. For residents of California and Singapore, we only offer online video conferencing or “teletherapy.” Maryland residents may also choose teletherapy instead of an in-person visit.
Our standard fee is $160 per 45 minutes for individual therapy and $170 for couples therapy. However, for those who cannot afford our standard fees, do not use insurance, and do not involve us in legal proceedings, if we have opens slots, you can use OpenPathCollective.org or we may offer an adjustable sliding scale fee based on comparing your income to the U.S. Federal Poverty Level according to the most recent US Poverty Guidelines (https://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines):
Sliding Discounted Fee for 45 minutes of Family Therapy
0% – 100% of U.S. Federal Poverty Level = US $40 (We cannot go lower)
101% – 125% of U.S. Federal Poverty Level = US $50
126% – 150% of U.S. Federal Poverty Level = US $60
151% – 175% of U.S. Federal Poverty Level = US $70
176% – 200% of U.S. Federal Poverty Level = US $80 (50% discount)
Greater than 200% of U.S. Federal Poverty Level = Pay full rate
However, please note that for couples therapy, a minimum of 90 minutes (the fee x 2) is required for our first session due to the extensive nature of the intake process for two people.
LENGTH OF THERAPY
Due to the varying nature and severity of problems and the individuality of each client, we are unable to predict the length of your therapy or to guarantee a specific outcome or result. The length of your treatment depends on the specifics of your treatment plan and the progress you achieve. Most clients see their therapist once a week for 3 to 4 months. After that, they meet less often for several months. Therapy then usually comes to an end.
