Way to go for having the courage to search for professional support. I like that you are daring to hope for change and taking effective steps to move towards the changes you want. I specialize in a highly effective therapy for children ages 2.5 through 8 years with behavior problems and/or anxiety. The type of treatment I provide (PCIT) is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics for young children with behavioral and emotional problems. I work with the kids who just don’t listen and constantly argue. I help kids who are so anxious you can’t peel them off of you at drop off time – or maybe even to walk to the next room. Some of the children I work with are so defiant and aggressive they have been – or are at risk for – being kicked out of their daycare or preschool. The kids I help have loving parents who are at their wits end and under daily stress because nothing is working to turn their child’s challenging behaviors around. They do what other parents do, or what worked for another child in the family, but it is not working for this child. Take heart – you are at the right place. There is hope.
I work with parents as team players and equip them with professional therapy skills that I have seen work for so many children. After teaching parents the therapy skills, I coach parents in these therapy skills real time via an earbud in their ear during weekly online sessions while joining the family via secure video. Families graduate when the child’s behavior has improved to the range that is expected for a child at their developmental level and parents are experts in the therapy skills I taught. The therapy I provide is highly effective for children with behavior problems, ADHD, ODD, anxiety disorders, and histories of trauma.
I absolutely LOVE working closely with families to turn a child’s difficult behavioral or emotional patterns around at an age when it often makes a difference in the child future (and in the well-being/stress level of the whole family). I love what I do and I am here to support and encourage you through the whole journey. Therapy sessions are typically an hour long during the first phase of treatment. During the start of the second phase of treatment, I tell clients to block over 2 hours for the appointments. No matter how long the family sessions run, you will only need to pay between $60 and $80 depending on what you decide your family can afford. The reason parents are always involved throughout treatment is because 1 time per week therapy for young children simply doesn’t work long term. Parents are my essential treatment team members and I equip you with the professional therapy skills I am trained in, so that you have what you need to provide daily “doses” of the therapeutic interventions between sessions. This means treatment usually works more quickly and children’s improvements typically continue for years after graduation, instead of a child’s old behavior patterns returning after treatment is over. I welcome and celebrate diversity. No matter your faith, sexual orientation, gender identity, family configuration, ethnicity, level of melanin, or country of origin, I would be honored to work with you!
