How it works
Our belief is founded in a recognition that an economic gulf is not being bridged by our current mental health care system—and middle-income individuals are being left out in the cold as a result. By becoming an Open Path Member therapist, you help us meet the problem head-on.
We believe that more people can access affordable psychotherapy if:
Mental health care professionals in private practice commit a part of their practice to working with clients at a reduced rate.
Mental health care professionals in private practice are supported in their efforts, and rewarded for their service.
Open Path makes it easy for clients and therapists to connect with each other:
Search – A client locates an Open Path therapist in their area then submits an application and a one-time membership fee of $49 with Open Path to begin the process of being matched with the therapist.
Connect – If the Open Path therapist has current availability, she/he sees the client for $30 – 50 per session. The fee within this scale is negotiated between the client and therapist and paid directly to the therapist according to how she/he normally conducts her/his practice.
Schedule – The Open Path client and therapist’s relationship is identical to any other client in the therapist’s caseload. The only difference is the fee scale.
Why work with us?
What you receive
Involvement – The benefit of knowing you are part of the first nationwide movement of mental health care professionals who are publicly acknowledging and actively addressing an area of economic disparity in the mental health field.
Payment – $30 to $50 for each session you conduct with an Open Path client. We acknowledge that this rate is significantly lower than what most professionals charge. We ask that each OPPC member see a minimum of one client at any given time at these reduced rates.
