Tracy A. Fulton
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I offer therapy services to help people discover more satisfying ways of living. Because relationships play an enormous role in our social, emotional, and mental health, improving them is most often the focus of treatment. Therapy can be a valuable tool for self-discovery and greater self-awareness. My philosophy is to meet each of my clients with honesty, respect, and the understanding that whoever we are and wherever we come from, we all search for a sense of wholeness, and the desire to establish meaningful connections with others.
My therapeutic approach is client-centered, with a strong emphasis on mindfulness. My work is based upon the following beliefs:
* We are each capable of growth and change.
* By learning to live in the present moment as often as we are able, we can begin to let go of painful experiences in the past, and reduce our anxiety and worry about the future.
* Good therapy is all about collaboration and partnership. It is a process that requires the full engagement of both patient and therapist, working together with mutual respect.
* People are experts on themselves. I trust that you will teach me what I need to know about you in order to help you identify and achieve your goals.
I have training in and utilize a variety of psychotherapeutic modalities and techniques to help clients identify and address their unique concerns and struggles, among them mindfulness practices (e.g., brief meditation, radical acceptance); utilizing creative/expressive methods such as visual journaling, process painting, and poetry therapy; cognitive behavioral tools (tracking the connection between thoughts and emotions; identifying and reframing distorted thoughts); and sensori-motor techniques to reduce symptoms of trauma. However, there are a few fundamentals I have found to be consistently effective–and essential–to all successful client-therapist relationships. These include a willingness to accept each client without judgment, to listen deeply and hear each client’s story, and an unwavering belief in the human capacity for healing.
