I specialize in working with children, teenagers, and young adults who are struggling with mood (e.g., depression/anxiety/irritability/anger), acting out behaviors (e.g., defiance, impulsivity, restlessness, concentration difficulty), social difficulties, or family stressors. I utilize Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) and other attachment-based interventions that enhance connection between parent and child through attunement, co-regulation, and play therapy. The relational focused therapeutic techniques also provide a safe space for youth to work individually in therapy to explore, identify, and verbalize their thoughts and feelings while cultivating more adaptive coping behaviors and communication skills. My work with kids and teens is strengths-based, holistic, and authentic as I strive to connect with their unique interests, seek an understanding of their individual and systemic needs, and bridge the gap between their interests, abilities, needs, and resources.
Initially, I use a variety of expressive mediums (e.g., art, music, play) through which to safely explore a child’s thoughts and feelings. As therapy progresses I find that the most effective modality is family therapy, and I work deliberately to strengthen connection, understanding, and acceptance across the family system. Over the last five years working primarily with kids and teens, I have also had extensive experience working with divorced and/or separated parents to effectively co-parent. In this challenging work, the key is for co-parents to connect through mutual objectives, shared past experiences, and compassionate intentions for the family’s future, while carefully navigating personal and family dynamics that evolve as the family system resets and redefines itself. Though it can be difficult work, the therapeutic growth in this process is extraordinary.
I welcome the opportunity to connect with you to share a bit more about me and my practice, as I understand the therapeutic relationship is an essential part of preparing for the healing process.
