Welcome to taking that first step to improving your mental health!
My name is Leah Edwards, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and personal survivor of many life challenges. Both my professional and personal experiences have taught me the importance of viewing the world through a creator versus victim mindset. I believe in establishing a relationship with each client that takes their unique perspective into account, so that I can tailor therapy to best suit their individual needs. It is my firm belief that a therapist is merely a tool that clients can put to use in their lives.
I begin therapy by first assisting clients in personal discovery, where they identify where the work should begin, what they want to achieve within therapy, what type of tools they need, and then assist them in learning to employ those tools to make lasting change.
As well as working as a full time Licensed Marriage and Family therapist, I also work as a part time Community College professor teaching personal, academic and professional life skills. My past experienced includes several years working as Facilitator for Batterer’s Intervention Programs, SAFE groups, Parenting and Anger Management. I learned and taught the importance of understanding the underlying emotions behind anger, and emotional reactivity to live a more balanced life.
I have been blessed to work within a diverse population, and have embraced the importance and value of recognizing that the client is the expert within their own lives. I have connected with many cultures, relationship dynamics, spiritualities, identities, and view points that have provided me with a greater awareness and understanding of the vast varieties of life transitions that individuals face.
I use the tools that I have learned to assist others in creating the life and mindset that will lead them to develop a healthier way of viewing themselves, and the world, and to laugh and enjoy the experience along the way. I am a firm believer in the power of laughter and creativity, and that it is never too late to make changes within your life to become the, “Best version of You.” I work diligently to assist others in addressing their own life transitions in order to move forward to live happier, healthier and more balanced lives.
