In “Farewell to Arms,” Ernest Hemingway proclaims, “The world breaks everyone, and afterward, many are stronger at the broken places.” Which is true! Those who experience mental health and substance use stressors are some of the most resilient in the world. If you think about it, you have overcome every challenging day of your life. Reaching out for help is scary, challenging, and an act of courage and strength. I know this professionally AND personally.
Everyone’s journey is different. My mental health, substance, and life stressors (self-inflicted and not) ruled me for most of my adult life. The personal work (yes, aided by a therapist) became “growth” work, discovering who I was and where I wanted to go. All this fueled the motivation to enter this helping profession in 2008, hoping my wisdom could reduce emotional pain in others and improve their quality of life.
I hold a license in Clinical Social Work (LCSWA), a license in Clinical Addiction (LCAS), and a certification in Clinical Trauma (CCTS). I specialize in working with adults 18-65 experiencing stress/anxiety/worry, acute stress and complex PTSD, comorbid conditions, major depression, behavioral modifications, emotional regulation, obsessions, recovery/growth/healing, substance, and other compulsive self-defeating behaviors, communication issues, conflict resolution, and marriage/couples counseling. I’ve had the privilege to work alongside the indigent, criminal involved, private pay, and insured populations.
My experience in this profession has taught me that no treatment method is better than any other, as methods are client-centered, and all people are beautifully unique. However, I firmly believe client growth occurs most when the therapeutic relationship comprises safety, self-determined, and non-pathological, all at the client’s pace. I have been told I possess a warm demeanor and an innate ability to connect with others, seeing the world from others’ eyes. My outside interest includes creating, playing music with my band, advocating for the indigent and criminal justice populations, golfing, spending time with my family, and being outdoors.
I have telehealth and in-person spots for adult females, non-binary, and males who desire quality-of-life improvements. Life’s recovery and growth journey come by way of connection and self-exploration. I do hope you find yours!
