Hello! My name is Kaitlynn Murguia (she/her/hers) and it is wonderful to meet you and to tell you a little bit about myself! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) in the State of Illinois. I completed my Bachelors of Science degree (B.S.) in Nutrition and Dietetics at Benedictine University and went on to earn my Masters of Science degree (M.S.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Addictions, from Walden University in 2019.
Prior to working as a counselor, I was a Nutritionist providing care in a residential treatment center. I quickly discovered within this work that what I truly loved was guiding and helping people overcome the emotional blocks that so often accompany dietetic issues. I decided to expand my education and have thoroughly loved my decision to pursue mental health counseling. My background in nutrition is one of the many ways that I honor my clients as holistic beings – as I believe in treating the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. I truly believe that the process of self-discovery, empowerment, and healing. I have many areas of interest and specialization within the field of mental health counseling. I have experience working with survivors of trauma, individuals with severe mental illness including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and addiction issues, as well as adults with mood disorders, anxiety, or life transition concerns. I have worked with children and adolescents with behavioral / conduct problems and consider myself a strong advocate and change agent for members of the LGTBQ2S community. My most recent work has allowed me to gain extensive experience working with Chicago’s sizeable Native American population on the host of mental health issues facing the tribal nations. In my role as a counselor, I have provided care to individuals in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, community health centers, schools and outpatient settings. I use an integrative, individualized, and culturally-sensitive approach so as to tailor treatment to your unique needs. I specialize in healthy relationships (with people and with food) and therefore enjoy working with families and couples as well as individuals that may be recovering from domestic violence or intimate partner violence. My eclectic style draws heavily on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), psychoanalysis, and mindfulness. I believe that each person is the expert of their own life, an I value the privilege of being a resource to you on your healing journey. I provide teletherapy services for Generations Behavioral Healthcare, P.C. and Home Psych Services, P.C. using secure video teleconferencing technology for the comfort, convenience, added privacy and safety of my clients.
I am married and reside in the suburbs of Chicago. When I am not in my beautiful home office, I enjoy gardening, cooking, hiking, camping, and traveling with my family. I also have a kayak and regularly participate in kayaking adventures and other water activities. I enjoy caring for my numerous fur babies and taking them on our family camping and traveling adventures. I have been studying Nutritional Psychology and hope to be a Certified Nutritional Psychologist by 2025.
