Welcome! My name is Justina and I am a bilingual (Spanish and English) licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas. I have had over 13 years experience working in the mental health field. I have worked in a variety of settings including private practice, residential, inpatient, outpatient, university, military & family life counseling, Central and South American immigrant emergency shelters, LGBT, marriage and family life, and addictions. I have had experience working with a broad range and severity of clinical issues. I also have experience working with anxiety, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anger management, family conflict, relationship conflicts, and complex trauma/abuse. I also have experience working with depression, intellectual/developmental disabilities, mild autism, and immigration/acculturation issues.
My dedication to the field of mental health stems from my personal experience with it. I grew up with parents and family members living with mental illness and I have personally overcome some mental health challenges over the course of my lifetime, too. I know firsthand that having mental health concerns can be difficult. There is still so much stigma around having mental health issues, the process for getting help can be overwhelming, and it can feel so frustrating and lonely. That is why I am here: to tell you that, though life changes, those changes can be wonderful, and I am a testament to finding support and taking small steps to taking care of yourself.
I use a person-centered, solution-focused, holistic, multicultural, and cognitive behavioral approach in treatment, which means I meet you where you are and tailor the treatment approach to your needs while being sensitive to how your own personal cultural identities and lifestyle choices impact your experience. I primarily use evidence based techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. I would describe my style as friendly and supportive, but I am also prepared to receive and assist you in overcoming your struggles from the get-go. We can work together at prioritizing, setting goals, and achieving them, at your pace!
