Do you find yourself feeling stressed and anxious about your relationships? Did you have someone in your life, maybe a parent, sibling, or a past partner, who you just could not seem to please? Maybe they even hurt you physically or emotionally. Maybe you think of what happened to you as trauma, or maybe you question whether it was trauma. No matter the words you use to describe your experience, the feelings you have about it are real, and you are welcome here. I help people work through difficult relationship experiences and develop healthier relationships with themselves and others.
Approach:
I take a relational or “person centered” approach to therapy. I believe our therapeutic relationship is the vehicle for change. You are the expert on your life, and I tailor therapy to you as individual. I integrate parts-work, principles of family systems theory, and EMDR. I have completed EMDRIA-approved basic training, and I am so encouraged both by the research and the effects I have seen firsthand for interpersonal trauma.
Above all, I support my clients in discovering and embracing their inner wisdom and strengths, while providing coping skills and tools to enhance those strengths.
My Influences:
From the beginning of my career as a therapist, I worked in a community mental health setting providing therapy to individuals, couples, and families with complex trauma histories. Long before I was a therapist, I was a birth doula. My attendance at dozens of births gave me a deep appreciation for the mind-body connection, which I carry with me into my work as a trauma therapist. I especially appreciate the mind-body aspects of EMDR.
I am passionate about working with clients working on deconstruction/recovery from adverse religious experiences. I have special experience working with folks who were raised in fundamentalist Christian homeschooling communities.
