Mr. David Adames
-Change is not easy; it is difficult, and it takes courage. An individual needs the motivation and determination to change. I work with clients in a collaborative effort to improve the emotional state, level of motivation, and their determination to change. My goal is to provide an appropriate, caring, and empathetic environment, where the client can acquire the tools necessary to achieve goals. I am experienced in the field of trauma, and my theoretical orientations in practice are primarily Cognitive-Behavioral and Person-centered/Rogerian; while my philosophical orientation leans towards Existential/Humanist and Jungian methodology; in the end, however, I use various eclectic and insight/awareness-oriented approaches. These empowering approaches are designed to, consciously and unconsciously, challenge and reduce negative/distorted thoughts along with the accompanying self-defeating behaviors that perpetuate a negative emotional state.
-My goal as a therapist is to increase positive/rational thinking that leads towards the effective management of life’s problems. I believe that most change occurs between therapy sessions as clients experiment with fresh ways of thinking, behaving, and feeling. In addition, in order to incorporate change, I utilize unconditional positive regard which creates an atmosphere of acceptance, empathy, and support that, along with cognitive and dialectical behavior (CBT, DBT, MI, ACT) strategies, can assist in the regulation of emotions, toleration of stress, and the effective management of interpersonal conflicts. These approaches are very effective in the treatment of depression, addiction, anxiety, and other emotional issues. I have extensive experience working with ADHD, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, borderline personality disorder, other “Axis II” disorders, addictions, domestic violence issues, and trauma. If you are looking to improve the relationship with your teenager, or maybe just change your own outlook on your current stage in life, I am here to help.
-I am adept at helping people who have experienced trauma; having worked in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault for nearly six years, I was able to educate myself on the dynamics of healthy and unhealthy relationships and feel adequately knowledgeable in those areas. However, trauma goes beyond relationships, which is why I have also been trained on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a very effective method of treating trauma-based symptoms and other afflictions. In addition, I have been extensively trained, 148hrs, by Behavioral-Tech-LLC on DBT(Dialectical Behavior Therapy), which is a very effective mode of therapy used to treat a variety of personality disorders, such as Borderline Personality Disorder, and a myriad of other behavioral/emotional conditions.
