“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone” is my favorite quote. I believe that everyone has experienced some type of trauma in their lives. Working through that traumatic experience takes you out of your comfort zone and allows you to find peace in your life.
That is why I provide a safe space for you to do the hard work necessary for healing and growth. I will build a relationship with you to help you mend and improve at your own pace. At the same time, I will guide you along your journey to reach your goals.
Together, we will address the underlying negative core beliefs that are holding you back. I use both talk therapy and bottom-up treatment to address your trauma. You will learn enhanced skills to overcome past experiences while also learning how to manage stressors of everyday living.
Seeking therapy means that you want more from your life. It is difficult. I don’t have a magic wand (I wish I did!). Contact me if you are interested in working with a dedicated therapist who appreciates humor and sarcasm as well as honesty and alternative perspectives.
More about me
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a therapist to help others. Growing up, I was always the person my friends sought to help them throughout high school. I discovered that by listening and asking the right questions, I assisted my friends in solving their own problems. They just needed a little guidance.
So, it was logical that I studied psychology in college in pursuit of becoming a therapist. It was my comfort zone. I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Erskine College.
However, when I graduated, I did not feel ready to be a therapist, and I did not want to continue school for a master’s degree. Something was missing. I felt myself being pushed out of my comfort zone into a journey that took me down several roads that gave me life experiences that I never expected.
I found myself succeeding in the business world, working in human resources, and becoming a consultant on affirmative action and equal employment opportunity for a leading labor and employment law firm. To climb the corporate ladder, I obtained my MBA from Regis University. Throughout this time, I was a military spouse whose husband left the military for civilian life only to return to active-duty service in the Army after the 9/11 attack on our country.
I became active in supporting military spouses and families in navigating this unique – and sometimes lonely – lifestyle. I hosted dinners for our military family, heard deployment stories, listened to struggles with post-traumatic stress, and observed friends and family as they readjusted to life outside of combat. Slowly, I felt the pull back to my early days of wanting to be a therapist. Specifically, I wanted to help those affected by trauma.
But could I do it now? I was encouraged by friends and family who told me I was leading a support group at the dinner table. I started believing it was possible and set out on a new journey. I obtained a Master’s in Social Work from Simmons College and started working as a therapist.
In January 2022, I opened Insightful Journey Therapy Services, PLLC. I continue to improve my knowledge and skills to support you. Trauma-focused interventions, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Ego States, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are just a few of the areas that I continue to study.
