Hello, I am so glad you are here and reading this page! It takes courage to reach out for help, especially since people sometimes have a few mixed feelings about getting therapy in the first place. One part of you may feel hopeful and excited to find help, another part anxious or fearful as to what to expect from treatment. Or you have been in therapy in the past somewhere, found it helpful, and would like to continue with the work.
Psychotherapy is a process in which a special type of partnership is formed, (known as a therapeutic alliance), between patient and therapist. In a nourishing, respectful, sometimes gently challenging way, this partnership supports the patient’s own goals for healing, growth, and recovery. It is sometimes referred to as “the talking cure.” But it often involves deeper, self-exploration “talk,” not always easy but important for the patient to voice, and a special type of listening or “empathetic attunement’ by the therapist.
I have had the privilege and honor of working in this field for over twenty years and feel very grateful to have witnessed the self-growth and personal, psychological achievements of my patients.
Here are just some of the goals that therapy helped my patients achieve: increased psychological insight & self-understanding, better management of compulsive behaviors, development of compassion for “self and other,” deepening the sense of “realness” and authenticity in their interpersonal relationships, improved tolerance for their own feelings & emotions without becoming overwhelmed or acting-out destructively, increased sense of self-esteem & acceptance, healthier, better defined interpersonal boundaries necessary for the formation of true intimacy in all relationships, increased sense of “aliveness” and capacity for joy, increased confidence in their work & career, greater ability to form relational attachments & commitment, discovery or reactivation of their creativity.
There are times, especially at the beginning of treatment, when a new patient will ask me, “Is this normal?” It’s then I smile & point to a sign, (hanging in my physical office): “The only normal people are the ones you don’t know very well.”
We are all unique individuals, but nobody needs to feel alone and “terminally unique” with their internal emotional & psychological struggles.
I look forward to partnering with you on your own personal process of healing, growth, and recovery.
Please note: I am currently able to accept Open Path patients at a fee of $60.00 per individual session, and $80.00 per couple’s session.
