The cold weather is here. Trees thinning, wind blowing. The houses hold: we are working harder at holding. Muscles tighten. Dreams feel different. Birds gather, veer, go. We unpack the serious sweater, coat — where is that glove that went with its mate?

We catch a song that feels just right. A clear voice. Lyrics that reference spine, body — a song that travels, crystallizing in phrases, dispersing. The refrain: Feel as lonely as I do. Somehow, it doesn’t feel like an order. The voice reaches, plaintively, for others. An invitation to step out of the fast car, speeding toward the end. Feel as lonely as I do.
